Description

Enjoy a Livingstone Game Drive through the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park in Zambia. With the help of the experienced guides you can hope to spot some of Africa’s finest wildlife, including elephant, giraffe, zebra, buffalo and many more. The Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park is home to the only 5 remaining highly endangered White Rhino in Zambia. The park is on the banks of the Zambezi River so you will also enjoy seeing hippos and crocodiles. In addition to the wildlife, there is abundant bird-life in Livingstone’s Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park.

The wildlife sightings in the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park have decreased in the last two decades. While on a Livingstone game drive you are not guaranteed to see as much wildlife as you would in other parts of the surrounding area such as the Chobe National Park. If you would like to experience some fantastic wildlife sightings we highly recommend that you visit the Chobe National Park for a day trip during your stay in Livingstone.

Livingstone Game Drive and the Mosi-ao-Tunya National Park

Mosi-oa-Tunya means “The Smoke That Thunders“. The Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park is an UNESCO World Heritage site. The National Park covers a relatively small area of 66 km2 from the Songwe Gorge below the Victoria Falls and stretches upstream along the Zambian River bank for about 20 km. Within the National Park is an old cemetery where the first European settlers were buried. They made camp close to the river, but kept succumbing to a strange and fatal illness. They originally blamed the yellow/green-barked “fever trees” for this incurable malady. Only later did they discover it was the malarial mosquito causing their demise. Before long the community moved to higher ground and the town of Livingstone emerged.
