Steam Train Dinner Overview

The Livingstone Steam Train dinner is a fine dining experience unlike any other. Your journey begins when the Livingstone Steam Train, which has been restored to its former glory, departs from the Bushtracks station where you will board the immaculate vintage first class Lounge carriage. The Steam Train travels through a World Heritage site to arrive at the Victoria Falls Bridge in time to watch the sunset. After stopping on the bridge for a brief period of time you then head towards the Palm Grove siding. Enjoy the sights of the African bush from the stately dining carriages. Enjoy a romantic silver service five course dinner on board the Livingstone Steam Train. This is a journey into a timeless world of charm, elegance and romance, where the natural splendor will stir your imagination.

The ambiance of the dining carriage offers more than warm elegance. The sash windows allow for panoramic views of the passing scenery as experienced by the early 1900 visitors to the region.

The Livingstone Steam Train

The Livingstone Steam Train consists of 5 air-conditioned carriages. 2 dining cars, a club/kitchen car, lounge car, and an observation car. The carriages are pulled by either a 10th class No. 156 or a 12th class No. 204 locomotive. One of the dining cars, The Wembley, was built by the Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Company, and went on display in London at the British Empire Exhibition in 1924. It was shipped to the Union of South Africa and entered service on 19th May 1926 and hence acquired the name – The Wembley..

  1. Julie Coles

Very over priced. Don’t waste your money. I did the steam train from Victoria Falls side last year and re booked this year. We booked, paid a deposit only to be told we had been bumped off by a large group booking. We booked the train on the Zambia side, which costs us extra to get a visa. All went well until we re boarded the train after the stop at the bridge. Instead of an elegant fine dining carriage we got dumped next to the kitchen area in a second class carriage. It was hot noisy & cramped. The air conditioning didn’t work and to make it worse we got subjected to a second rendition of some loud tour guide boasting about his country, completely destroying the elegant relaxed dining experience from last year where the food was supplied by the Victoria Falls hotel and the wine more than palatable. The food on this occasion was cold, very ordinary and the wine very cheap and nasty. The service was slow and very poor. The price paid was more than double what we paid for a seven course meal with beers and wine in the very elegant Livingstone room at the Vic Falls Hotel with excellent service, delightful food all accompanied by piano music rather than a bombastic tour guide. DON’T BOTHER. Julie from Australia.
